Grace Church Yate

We are a group of Christians from many different backgrounds and walks of life, each with a different story to tell, but united by our experience of God's love. Before we ever gave him a thought, God loved us and sent his Son, Jesus, to be the rescuer. Jesus lived the life we should have lived, died the death we deserved and rose in triumph from the grave - to give life and hope to all who rely upon him.

Haven Memory Café at the URC

Haven Memory Cafe offers a warm welcome to people diagnosed with memory problems or dementia, along with a relative, friend or carer. It meets in a comfortable setting in the centre of Thornbury, in the United Reformed Church building.

It provides a welcoming social atmosphere, with tea, coffee and home-made cake, and an opportunity to chat to friends and volunteers. At each session there is a short activity, which is often musical, usually with an invitation to join in, or a demonstration or slide-show. NB The cafe is not a clinic, though there is often a Dementia Support Worker present.

The Memory Cafe usually meets on the first and third Friday mornings of each month, from 10.15am - 11.45am. The entrance is in Chapel Street, and is accessible to mobility scooters. There is car parking around the church, although it is often busy on a Friday morning.

We are back operating as normal in the United Reformed Church on Friday mornings. The programme still features a singalong with Lizzie & Jonny in alternate sessions.

Mums and Toddlers at Grace Church

Every Thursday in term time 9-10:30am and 10:45-12pm.

We are a very friendly group that includes mums, dads, grandmas and grandads, childminders... everyone is welcome. There are plenty of toys for pre-schoolers and toddlers and an area for babies as well.

Tea and coffee are provided for the adults during the morning play time. Most weeks there is a craft with something that the children can take home.

After tidying up time we all gather for a snack followed by a bible story and a mix of nursery rhymes and bible songs. In the summer we have the option of moving the toys onto the grass at the back of the church building.

There is no admission charge and we would love to see you.

Thornbury Quakers

Equality - Simplicity - Sustainability - Stillness - Truth - Peace

Are you tired of a world seemingly divided by media spin, political rifts and sensationalism; a world where our connection with deeper meaning has been lost to the clamour of consumerism? There are many organisations working hard to heal these divisions and to bring about positive change.

One of these groups is Quakers.

Quakers is a faith group working for equality, peace and sustainability. Although its roots are in Christianity, Quakers welcomes seekers from all faiths and none.

We share certain ideas, but recognise that the spiritual journey is different for everyone. We believe there is good in everyone and we try to put our faith into positive action in the world.

Our meetings are held in silence and are an opportunity for reflection, for spiritual exploration and for self discovery. During the pandemic we are meeting weekly on Zoom.

If the above resonates with you, please join us.

For further details contact Sheila Waters by phone or visit www.quaker.org.uk to find out more about Quaker faith and action.
