Life Events Co-ordinator at The Parish of Thornbury


The Parish of Thornbury is looking to employ a Life Events Co-ordinator to engage with our ongoing work with those in our community who are looking to baptise their children, plan a church wedding or need to arrange a funeral in one of our Benefice churches.

Job Title: Life Events Co-ordinator
Salary and hours: Salary: £22,932 to £24,479 FTE

Working approximately 20 hours per month which will predominantly be week-day working but occasional weekend working may be desirable. The actual hours worked to be mutually agreed.

Reporting to: Priest-in-Charge

Overall purpose of post
This role, co-ordinates all aspects of Funerals, Weddings and Baptisms, often becoming the link for families between various life events (hence the title of the role).
Previous experience and enjoyment of detailed administration is essential; and it is a particular privilege to be involved in these life changing events and to build on these relationships in our local Parish and community.

Context in which this job will be carried out
We want the holder of this job role to become an integral part of the Benefice team and to this end we will welcome and encourage new ideas and suggestions about what we can do better. We are open to new organisational and administrative tools, for example the Benefice will shortly be using iKnow Church as a database tool; previous experience will be very valuable.

Responsibilities

  • Detailed liaison with the Priest or Lay Minister (Funerals) taking the services and covering all aspects of each type of service. It will be necessary to become aware of the various legal aspects of some of the services to ensure everything runs smoothly on the day.
  • To keep appropriate records and maintain ongoing pastoral support including preparation of our annual bereavement service, anniversary cards and any follow up communication with families.
  • To ensure that all health and safety and safeguarding instructions are followed and that care is taken to ensure safety for self and colleagues, reporting concerns immediately.
