The Armstrong Arts Group (AAG) was created in 2019 as a result of the fund-raising effort to help redevelop the Armstrong Hall in Thornbury started in 2011 by Joan Hawkins, Daphne Ashton and Barbara Ray.
Its aims are to promote and maintain entertainment opportunities in Thornbury for all ages and interests for the benefit of Thornbury and the surrounding area in which individuals will be able to enjoy and appreciate various cultural and entertainment events.
In view of the closure of the Armstrong Hall Complex, any funds currently raised by the events organised by the group will be utilised to facilitate further cultural events and activities.
The programme organised by the AAG includes musical performances, drama productions and talks.

Part of Thornbury Arts Festival
The Severn Vale Art Trail represents the visual side of Thornbury Arts Festival and takes place just after the Arts Festival. The trail is an annual event running over the early May Bank Holiday for a period of up to 10 days.
The trail presents a wealth of talent by local artists and makers including paintings in oils, watercolour and pastel, ceramics and sculpture, prints and drawings, photography, jewellery, textiles, stained glass, and woodturning.
Each year hundreds of visitors spend days out in South Gloucestershire and Gloucestershire visiting the various Art Trail venues.
We usually meet on the 2nd Monday of the month at 2pm to watch a guest demonstrator create lovely flower arrangements, which are raffled off afterwards.
Practice Classes usually take place on the 4th Monday of the month, 1.30-3.30pm. At these classes we practise our own skills under the watchful eye of an experienced flower arranger and teacher.

For over 60 years our Thornbury Art Club has been a place for like-minded people who love to paint together and share experiences in a friendly atmosphere.
We invite you to come and try Thornbury Art Club, a welcoming community where individuals from diverse backgrounds come together to share their creative passions. Whether you have a long-standing interest in art or are completely new to it, you will find a place here. We hold Studio Groups on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons. Here you can enjoy your painting and crafting in the company of fellow members, learning from one another, sharing stories and experiences that you won't find on any on-line platform. Non-Members are welcome to visit during our studio hours to see what we are up to and to ask about memberships in person.
Every 4th Tuesday of the month we hold an evening Club Night when a variety of professional artists will visit to demonstrate their art skills and style. During the tea break we can catch up with each other, chat to the artist about materials and techniques and items for sale. Non- members are welcome at just £6 on the door.
We have started a Saturday morning Sketchers Group where we meet outdoors for a relaxing sketching session then go on to have tea and coffee in a local cafe. We try to car share where possible. Our club is open to everyone, regardless of artistic experience or medium. Some of our members just paint for fun, while others are successfully running their own art businesses. Come and give us a try, we’re always keen to have new members.

Thornbury Arts Festival is one of the longest running multi-arts festivals in the country.
Entirely run by volunteers, the Festival is an established part of the Thornbury calendar and the organising committee is also responsible for the annual Thornbury Eisteddfod, and the Severn Vale Art Trail, which showcases the work of local artists.
The club welcomes photographers of all abilities. We meet at 7.30 for 7.45pm every Monday in the Games Room at Turnberrie's Community Centre, September to April, and have a reduced programme during the summer. The meetings are a mix of guest speakers, competitions and practical evenings. We run beginners courses, and students regularly join us for club meetings. If you would like more details, contact us, or come along to one of our meetings.
We are looking for people to join us on a Monday evening. If you enjoy painting, drawing or other portable crafts (whatever your ability or experience) then this may be for you.
The only requirements are that you are over 16 years old, enjoy art or crafts and can bring along your own project. There is no pressure; we are a relaxed, informal & sociable bunch of people who enjoy making art.
We meet 7–9pm every Monday (apart from bank holidays). It’s £5 per evening. For further information please click the link below or call or text Roz.
